Lincolnshire Cares, the befriending service that offers friendship and support to people over the age of 60 in Caistor and surrounding areas, is pleased to announce two fundraising initiatives that will enable it to continue to support our vulnerable senior citizens throughout these challenging periods we’re all facing.

Shop in your local Caistor Coop, show your dividend card – and we’ll benefit from donations

Lincolnshire Cares is one of the selected ‘Community Champions’ in the Caistor area over the coming weeks. This means that from now until Friday 27th November, every time a member shops and uses their dividend card in the Caistor branch of Lincolnshire Coop, a donation will go to their local Community Champions – one of which is Lincolnshire Cares.

Due to the coronavirus situation, in-store fundraising is currently limited, but rest assured that in the busy run-up to Christmas (and beyond) the registered charity has a chance to benefit from the goodwill of every Coop member who chooses to shop at their local Caistor supermarket. Every week a new fundraising total will be displayed on the Community Champions board in the Caistor branch, to keep everyone updated with how much has been raised so far.

Play the local lottery and help support Lincolnshire Cares!

The West Lindsey Lottery is an exciting weekly lottery that raises money for good causes in the district. ‘Lincolnshire Cares’ is one of the many good causes supported by the lottery and for a limited time, 50 pence of every £1 ticket sold will go directly to the  befriending service that was set up in 2016 to help prevent social isolation among those over the age of 60 in Caistor, Nettleton, Cabourne, North and South Kelsey and surrounding villages.

The first West Lindsey Lottery draw will take place on Sat 17 October at 8pm but tickets are available to buy online now for just £1 per week. For more information, see the dedicated page on the West Lindsey Lottery site here and to buy tickets, please click this link for more information.

Those who are not on the internet can call the dedicated West Lindsey Lottery number on 01427 381050 to register and set up payments for buying tickets.

About Lincolnshire Cares

Lincolnshire Cares provides a much loved and valued service for the community in offering friendship and support to people over the age of 60 in Caistor, Nettleton, Cabourne, North and South Kelsey and surrounding district. Our main service is ‘befriending’, whereby our members are carefully matched to a volunteer befriender – allowing a friendship to develop and regular visits to take place. We usually host weekly coffee mornings in Caistor and Kelsey, seasonal parties, afternoon teas, film shows and activity afternoons.

Because of the current global pandemic and subsequent social distancing measures, we are unable to provide many of the above support services. However, we have a committed group of volunteers who are carrying out telephone befriending and currently reaching around 70 people each week. This is a fantastic achievement and making a real difference to many of our senior citizens, who would otherwise be at risk of social isolation during these challenging times.
